It seems it's a popular format with the AEC crowd now.

I know to get all B&W plots to PDF, our CAD manager created a black-only pen style, and everyone plots with that to create PDFs.

Just curious, why do you choose PDF over the DWF format?

Subject: [PDF] AutoCAD Drawing Conversion to PDF

I am having some trouble using Acrobat 6 to convert ACAD R14 and 2002 files. Problems include converting native AutoCAD colours to black/greyscale for printing on typical monochrome laser and inkjet printers, getting landscape orientation and control over scale.

Does anyone have experience with these items? Is there any good reference material on this?

Thanks,
Alex Apostoli
