Hi,
We are running Autocad 2002 and Acrobat 6.0 and do not have any problems
generating a direct PDF which can also be modified in Illustrator if
required. Previously we used AutoCad 14 and Acrobat 5.0 with similar
results. (Of course you can always copy and paste directly into Illustrator
or open the file directly from Illustrator and save as a PDF also as a
alternative if you have that option.)
Anyway to produce a PDF image from AutoCad, I simply select "Acrobat PDF
Writer" as the plotter, chose "monochrome.cbt" for pen assignment, chose
"Extents" for plot area, "Scaled To Fit" for scale setting and usually
tabloid for paper size which can be what ever you chose. You can also place
this as a default if you want.
Hope that is of help and good luck on resolving your issue.

I've had good results generating PDF output from AutoCAD files with a
shareware product by Amethyst called CADwizz (www.cadwizz.com). It
supports all versions of AutoCAD, allows one to translate line colors
and widths (as may be necessary when printing to a plotter), convert to
B&W, manage layers, and scale. I've had good results printing to Acrobat
4 and 5 (haven't tried it with 6 yet).
