I would agree that indexing of information for which you have acquired the rights (ie. paid for it) should be allowed.

As to how 3rd party solutions should address this - either you need
to contact each DRM-provider individually to provide you with a similar plugin to your own system

... which is likely to go against their license argeement (the DRM providers, and probably Adobe's too). And emulating Acrobat environment cannot be easy, anyway (it is O(implementing_acrobat)). Out of curiosity, has anyone successfully done that?
Conclusion: as long as DRM is going to cripple people's fair use we'll have 'DVD Jons' popping up all over. Which in the end hurts the DRM industry. Food for (their) though.
