No need to worry. With MF lenses, you can leave the switch on the body set
to either AF or MF. In fact, if you leave the switch on AF while using a
MF lens, you can achieve "trap focus" - that is, you can keep the shutter
button pressed down but the shutter won't fire until the subject is in
focus. Way cool!
However, with AF lenses, you must ensure the switch is set to MF before
attempting to focus an AF lens manually.
With both MF and AF lenses, it does not matter what the switch is set to
when you attach the lens.
I should also mention that some 3rd party MF lenses will not attach
properly to Pentax AF bodies, for various reasons. For example, my Vivitar
Series I 70-210/f4.0 (67mm filter diameter) will not mount onto my pZ-1p
as a part of this lens hits the power zoom contacts on the body. It will
also not mount properly to the 1.7x AF convertor/adaptor.
