It is not too cheap, actually. ~$230 for an Epson 1160, plus $625 for
the Piezography system, which includes software, a continuous inking
system for the 1160, and four bottles of ink (four different dilutions
of the same grey tone) 

I don't have a good estimate regarding the cost per print. I haven't
even gotten to halfway my ink bottles, and have printed only 15-20
8x10s. I'm currently making a database of my images, and plan to start
a methodical printing of selected pictures for a portfolio in the next
month or two.

Perfectly possible, and it seems like some people out there are really
passionate about it, so that would make sense. On the other hand, it
would also make sense to Epson to deny any problems with the ink and
produce a paper that has less problems because it absorbs better.
Whatever. We are just part of a technology which is only starting. In
the meantime, keep your negs and/or digital files somewhere safe...
