Far worse. That's why you can find so many of those on the used market.

Stay with the lens you already have or be prepared to spend significant
money for f/2.8 semipro zooms. The cheaper Sigma 4-5.6 is said to be
much better.

Alternatively wait for the 24-90, it might be a very interesting lens
and not too expensive.

There's also a Sigma 28-135 but I don't know anything about it.
