Another list member and myself compared coating colours (verbally) between 
4 pieces of the same model A series lens, he had an early serial no and a 
more recent and I had a similar combination. My two lenses definitely 
showed different coloured reflections in their front elements, the colour 
descriptions that I provided for comparison were it seems similar to the set 
owned by the other owner. So yes there were visual differences in the 
coatings however whether this was due to re-formulation of or aging of the 
coatings is anyones guess however my two samples showed no noticeable 
signs of a difference of performance WRT flare or transmission colour.
