Yes, we've had one for a few months now. It's no substitute for one of
the serious machines if you want to make big prints on an inkjet, but
for PUG entries and prints up to about 10x8 it's not too bad at the
price. The software is the weak point, very poor control, and Ed Hamrick
gave up in disgust so you can't use VueScan. If you take a fairly raw
36-bit scan into a good graphics program and fiddle from there it ends
up OK.
The biggest problem is that you can't set accurate black and white
points so that gamma correction is wrong, and the 'auto gamma' and 'auto
contrast' settings clip at both ends, so it's best to do these after
scanning. B/W negative is particularly demanding - it has no profile for
it.
On the plus side, it's robust and portable, the USB connection is good
for notebooks, and the results are very usable at the expense of a
little extra time.
