Mafud,
I think the Super Program with a AF400T and a Motor A will take pictures at 3.5 frames
per second, the Motor A speed until you run the flash charge down. I've done the same
with a AF280T. At f1.4 with a subject nearby, it will fire off 4-6 consecutive shots
and then pause to 'whine', building up stored energy in the Flash Unit. I think the
AF400T has a bigger capacitor (internal electric energy storage device) than the
AF280T, so you can get more consecutive shots before you need that recharge.
Batteries are a low voltage, energy storage device that power the flash. The charging
'whine' is the flash converting that 6 volts battery energy into 500 volts of white
lightening needed to 'flash' the flash tube. The capacitor stores that 'white
lightening' at ~500 volts for a little while and the electronics of TTL dole out just
the right amount to expose your film. Sometimes it takes the whole capacitor's charge
to expose a distant object.
Holding 500 volts of white lightening is a leaky process, and the energy dribbles away
from the capacitor even while it is 'whining', but especially as you turn the flash
off.
Bottom line is that the mechanical speed of the motor/winder is the limiting factor
until the flash has used up it's charge. Then the flash recharges.
Hope this helps, Bob S.

But...but, my AF400T manual states: "In the TTL
Auto mode, approximately 15 flashes are obtainable
(with LX or Motor "A" attached (my emphasis) in
a sequence using high performance alkaline
batteries in good condition at f/1.4..."
Are we to take it then that "high speed sync"
is not at the same time the same as PENTAX
bodies performing "high speed sequential"
(consecutive frames) shooting?
Better yet: should we then interpret from the
above that the "15 flashes" are shot only as
fast as the LX/SUPER PROGRAM bodies can recycle
and not any faster?
*We know Super Programs *can* shoot at
1/2000th sec. How long would (does) it take to
shoot 15 shots with an AF400T in TTL mode and
a SP/Motor "A" combination? <<
