I think the comments about industrialists profiting on WWII are inaccurate at 
best.

I read in 'The Arms of Krupp' that during WWI, Krupp kept account of 
royalties owed to the British for artillery shell proximity fuses used.  
Others may have kept similar accounts.

But by WWII, the US government was much less flexible.  It was nationalizing 
foreign assets like Bayer Chemicals.
