This kind of "research" is usually done for justifying some people position and their
subjective choices of camera gear. The fact remains (from someone who use MF 90% of
the time) that when AF works (even on the antique Z-1p) it outperforms any
photographer. No, it doesn't work in every situation and it isn't perfect. The key is
to be able to take advantage of the feature. For moving subjects, AF win hands down;
in fact many moving subjects, even slow moving ones, AF gives more keepers and thats
what matters. I also have a problem with this anal-retentive fascination with focus
accuracy. Does anyone really have problem with focusing on normal subjects with
"normal" lenses? For this, any reasonable human error is way within DOF for anyone
with normal vision, even with the lenses wide-open. If vision is bad, AF is of great
help.
I'm one of those who have no problem with manual focusing but I have enough proof of
where MF have shortcomings. I do not use AF where its not needed. AF is better
solution for moving subjects where MF is difficult or impossible.
