I have just ordered this lens from Adorama - website lists price as $449.00,
but salesman volunteered price of $439. Plus there is a $70 rebate from
Tokina which expires 2/28/01 (there is a $50 rebate on the 28-80m, too) -
http://www.thkphoto.com/info/rebate00bonus.html

My thanks to you and the others for the information on and recommendations
of this lens, to Bill Sawyer for the information on his PUG posting with
this lens, and especially to Mike "Bucky" for sending me 2 giant (8X10)
images which showed the detail and fine lines the lens is capable of.

Maris

| Hi RSW
| This is an excellent lens. According to Photodo tests it apprx. as good as
| the FA4.0/28-70mm. But it's faster. I use it I awas all the time (my most
| used lens). Very sharp and not as expensive as the real stuff (SMC A*
| FA2.8/28-70mm). I tested it agains my FA3.5-4.7/28-80mm. It's clearly
| sharper if you enlarge to 180mm x 120mm (slides).
| (I think I've got the Pro II, that's what it said on the bow, but not on
the
| lens. I asked Tokina as well the the importer about the difference. But
I'm
| still not shure which one I've got! There are both cosmetic as well as
| optical differences, I'm told).
| Look at www.photodo.com
| Best Regards
| Jens
