Here we are talking about two different things entirely. You are
talking about grain for the sake of grain in the image, I am
talking about pure technical quality, which I hold separate from
any esthetic qualities.
I happen to like HIE, grainy as it is. I am also aware that any
print size made with it bigger than a wallet size is exceeding
the limitations of it's technical quality.
This doesn't stop me from making 11x14s though.
HIE in sheet sizes was lovely, as you could make a decent sized
print, and still not have intrusive granularity showing up.
