I would address the question of lens performance first. I could
not consider a camera body worth the money if I do not like the
optical qualities of the lenses it will use.

Pentax delivers for me! Pentax lenses have provided pictures
with the all around look I like best in 35mm format. Yes,
picture quality is a paramount factor. If your tastes decide
that Pentax lenses do not deliver characteristics as pleasing as
other brands designs, you may well be better served by another
brand. It is yourself you have to please.
