There's an interesting comparison in the Feb 2001 issues of Practical Photography,
where they review entry level SLRs. They compare the Canon EOS 3000, Minolta Dynax
404Si and the Pentax MZ-30 cameras. Out of the three reviewed, all get 7 out of 10
except the MZ-30, which scores an 8 out of 10. However, when it comes time to make
the recommendation on which camera is the best overall, they give the Minolta the
edge, based on the number of features it has. Now, a camera at this level, the user,
at least in my opinion, is probably not going to use anything but programmed
AE.....they will probably never shoot in Av or any other mode. However, they do say
that for the price, ease of use, performance and build quality, the Pentax more than
makes up for the lack of features and is the ideal beginner's camera.
Odd how they could select the Minolta as the winner..........it does make you wonder
about the reviews.
