The literature I've seen says it has a "TTL contrast detection
autofocus system," and they add:

Autofocus - 3 modes: 7 point AF, Spot AF & infinity Landscape Mode.
Manual focus - 2.4 inches (0.06m) to Infinity.

Reading the words accompanying the specs indicates there are 3 ranges
of manual focus possible: 

Normal: 1.31 ft to infinity
Macro:  7.1 inches to 1.64 feet [sic!], and
Super Macro: 2.4" to 7.9"

I suspect that each stated range to be selected, and are not
steplessly available.
