I'll have to check this for myself. An adaptor implies a mechanical
change in the mount - it makes little sense to use an adaptor just
to translate between the different digital protocols. To continue, a
mechanically new mount prevents the use of older lenses on the new
bodies without an adapter. This would mean the end of the lens
compatibility tradition - the only other stronghold of Pentax
besides SMC. I find it very unlikely. Anyway, I find difficult to
believe Pentax will come with something new at all. Great
expectations followed by small steps - speaking of tradition...
Well, according to KAF3 patent - mount is identical, and power supply for
ultrasonic motor and image stabilisation motors is provided via powerzoom
contacts (Vpz on diagrams) - the same contacts are still used to provide
power to powerzoom motors, when such a older lens is detected. So no
converters are required at all to mount KAF3 lenses on KAF and KAF2 bodies.
The question is what functionality of these new lenses will be retained???
Maybe there will be converter to enable use of IS on older bodies (just like
AF 1,7x converter, that enabled to use older lenses in AF :-)??? AFAIK in
Nikon silent-wave (ultrasonic) motors in AF-S lenses works even with such a
venerable body like F4, but VR (vibration reduction) feature requires
completely new bodies.
I have downloaded full KAF3 patent in PDF - if somebody is interested I can
send it via e-mail!
Yes, very fun send me !
Thank's, Michel
