What the world needs and what the world wants are two different things. The world does not want the type of camera you have described, and basically stopped buying them years ago. They simply do not offer good value to people: they cost much more to make than than plastic/electronic wonders. Even for people who do want them, it's cheaper to buy them used.

aperture-priority AE; cloth shutter to 1/2000th; single button for spot

Of course, given that Pentax was really not happy selling so many K-1000s,
maybe it would be painful for them to have to resurrect it again. <g>
