The Canon probably has faster AF when coupled with USM lenses (common for Canon lenses, not for Nikon lenses). A result of the N80's small size, as compared to the F100, is the smaller, slower AF motor. AF systems that have the AF motor in the camera body pay a speed penalty with a tiny body: little motor & small batteries. System level AF speed is only partially dependent on sensor/computaion speed.
