Hi
To a LOT of people own a camera. A camera is something any consumer owns.
Just like a stereo, a car, a TV. Wearing a camera around the neck, doesn't
make anybody a photographer - just a consumer.
A photographer is a skilled person, educated in photography, most likely a
person, who earns (at least a part of) his living making photographs.
Photographs that are better, more interesting than the average family album
shots.

Of course any photographer knows about the DOF/aperture relationsship. It's
basic. I knew even before I got my first SLR.
