Hi Pl, on 28 Feb 03 you wrote in pentax.list:

Why should I have to buy new lenses? The *istD is fully compatible to K-mount and uses even 645 and 67 lenses. There is no other system with such compatibility. If you refer to the 1.5x field of view crop - this applies to all comparable DSLRs and is no disadvantage of the Pentax. >After all, theres nothing particularly Pentaxy in this camera and Nikon >and Canon offer better upgrade prospects and IS and USM as well and >better lens selection. There are two particularly Pentaxy features: - compact design - easy user interface I found the *ist ugly at the first view. But the *istD looks much better - not only because of the black paint but of a little different design and a high quality finish. I think, the *istD will be a successfull niche product. What else could Pentax do? No Nikon/Canon pro-user would change to Pentax only because of a new DSLR. Only a few P&S customers will afford a DSLR. So the only market for Pentax is the niche of existing SLR customers. The only reason for those customers to jump ship might be, that - as you said - Nikon and Canon have a wider system range and more modern lenses (IS/USM). Cheers, Heiko
