Well, yes and no. The cropped print wouldn't be as "good" as if you had
the longer lens. (Maybe.) However, you may still have enough neg to give
a decent print. It may be the case that the cropped area is still larger
than a 35mm neg. Part of the appeal of larger formats is that you can
crop if you need to.
It just depends...in some situations, it's acceptable to just get the
damned shot. In other situations you would want to get the shot from a
tripod on slow, 4x5 fine-grained film.
Several of my best "people" prints are cropped from 35mm D3200, shot
with the lens wide-open, hand-held in shaky shutterspeed territory.
Hell, one of them isn't even in very good focus. The limitations don't
matter, I got the shots.
