Well it may be higher since Canon is always ungrading their technology faster than anybody to meet pro demands. When the advent of IS, you saw a ton (relatvely speaking) of used non-IS 500mm f4.5, 400mm f2.8, and 600mm f4 for sale on ebay and great prices (this has died down though). The same happened when Canon went to USM motors. Check KEH for AF Canon gear to get an idea. Nikon is a tortise when it comes to upgrading technology compared to Canon.
