That's interesting - I was not aware that it was "optimized for
shorter focal lengths" - I have not read that previously (to your
post) nor have I ever noticed that.  My experiences are that the
Vivitar 2X Macro-Focusing TC provides results virtually the same as
the A 2X-S and the T6-2X at infinity (but maybe I'm just not as
discerning as I should be).

I am not familiar with any newer model than "the older metal
A-series ones from the 80's", I guess.  I still see them advertised,
but I had always assumed that they were all the same.  (But, again,
maybe I'm just not discerning enough - <g>).

For me, the bottom line is that the Vivitar 2X Macro-Focusing TC is
a very good 2X TC (keeping in mind that all TC's are compromises),
and is also (due to its helicoid focusing) a useful TC to have in
the bag, as well.
