From up close and personal/first hand/I own the camera experience:
- Ambient light meter will not even turn on with a non-CPU lens
- TTL flash works perfect with non-CPU lenses
Exposure will be fine if the flash is providing the main light. If the ambient light levels are high enough to contribute a significant amount of light to the overall exposure, you will need to meter ambient light level. I often use 400 film at 1/30 sec @ f8 indoors with flash providing the main light. Unless there is a great deal of sunlight coming in from a large window, I don't have to worry about ambient light levels.

So the N80 cannot meter with non-CPU lenses at all even set wide open? But
provided that it could, you think it would be no problem to achieve perfect
exposure by switching to manual and setting the appropriate amount of
overexposure and leaving the rest to the TTL? This should work well for flash pictures
with lots of ambient light. What are your experiences for darker (but not
completely dark) surroundings? Do you also have to compensate for ambient
light, or is normal TTL without adjustment OK?
