I think some of us might die waiting for Pentax to release USM/IS lenses.
Actually even Zeiss has all AF lenses for Contax with ultrasonic motors - I
doubt if they sell any better then Pentax lenses even these of higher class.
Producing USM compatible lenses/bodies would have another aspect. Sigma
would probably soon reverse engineer KAF3 mount and they would start to
produce their HSM lenses for Pentax too. After all it would be easier for
Sigma to produce identical mechanically lenses and just change mount and
some electronics for each mount. Right now they have to produce two kind of
EX lenses: HSM (for Canon, Nikon, Sigma) and classic - screwdriver type (for
Minolta and Pentax). In situation, when Minolta has already presented SSM
ultrasonic lenses, we will see soon Sigma's HSM lenses for Minolta too. That
could lead to the situation, when producing "special" version of particular
lens just for Pentax would make no more sense for Sigma and Pentax would
awake in the situation where there would be only some amateur class third
party lenses for their bodies. As a result less people would want to buy
such a poorly supported bodies (no matter how good would they be) and Pentax
35 mm system would soon end like Olympus OM system - just slowly die...
I hope I am wrong - I hope something should change soon...
