For me and my photography USM/IS doesn't matter - but it could be vital for Pentax future as 35 mm producer... Right now one can buy good, cheap Nikon or Canon (and what's worse Sigma) body like EOS30 (Elan 7) or F80 (N80) and yet have access to wide pallette of quite cheap and very good optically Sigma lenses with HSM motor. I am almost sure that users of Minolta will benefit from this possibility soon and then Sigma can decide to stop making some lenses in Pentax mount as non-profitable...
