Alan, I don't doubt what you say is true but I don't understand how it is possible. Guess I'm an optical theory lightweight.
That is what I "guess". My theory is that the surfaces of different focus screens were cut differently according to specific usage. This is the reason for so many different screens for MX/LX cameras. When the wrong one is matches, the focus screen would not be able to receive the light evenly and caused vignetting, or light-fall-off at the corners of the screen. However, the A35/2.8 is the only lens which react so dramatically, I have come across.
