Depends upon your quality demands. 2400dpi will give you a 8x print from 35mm at 300dpi, a 12x will only be 200dpi. Whether a print from a 200dpi image will be good enough is for you to decide. Why not do one? Just resize an image to 200dpi and print it out. That should tell you whether it will work for your needs. If that is OK, you will have not problem with larger negatives.
