I'd say (from personal experience) that what you tried were the right things to do. I might suggest perhaps just one more "rinse" with fresh water (perhaps a slightly damp "Q-tip") (trying to make sure that it dissolves any remaining salt in all the "nooks and crannies" of the various pieces, followed by a thorough paper towel or paper tissue drying, to try to remove (by "wicking out") any slightly salty water. I'd say that the trick is to try to get the salt out of all the crevices without getting too much water into the crevices in the process. Fred
