Thanks for your suggestion, Alexander.
I realized that this has become Canon vs. Pentax,
which is not the original intend, but anyway my
Tamron lens has a KA Adaptall mount, with an 'A'
setting on the lens, so it is expected to be fully
compatible with *ist D. Either way I will have to
buy one new digital body and a minimum of 2 new
lenses, to keep the amount of investment low, in
2004 or 2005. It is hard to predict what will happen
then but based on what I know today:
Canon Pentax
EOS 300D *ist D
17-40/4L DA16-45/4 ED AL
135/2L 77/1.8 Limited
50/1.4 or 1.8
1. The 300D will be much less expensive than *ist D.
2. I doubt if the new DA lens would be as expensive
as the Canon but the Canon is a full frame wide
angle costing "only" $800.
3. 135/2L is slightly more expensive than the 77/1.8
Limited but you know a 135/2 has a lot more glass. I
have a friend who had much Canon L gear so I know
this 135/2 is their best of the best, great for low
light stage photography which I sometimes do. Alan's
comments on 77 Limited's reliability is worrisome
and should not be taken lightly. I won't need new
telephotos on the Pentax side however because I can
reuse the Tamron 180/2.5 and F* 300/4.5, both great
performers.
Thank you everyone for the support and the
suggestions. So far it seems like since Contax is my
favorite right now I should use it happily until I
am "assimilated" by digital. By then if the Contax
becomes obsolete and non-saleable, let it be. But
when I am finally assimilated should it be Canon or
Pentax ? I will know in a year or two.
