Has anyone used the 1.7X AF adapter with an AF lens? Are there any issues or risks in doing so?
Specifically I want to try it on my SMC-F70-210, just to get a bit more length. I realize that I will likely lose AF and alot of light, but it's more of an experiment anyway.
Just wanted to make certain that I'm not going to break anything.
I've used it with a few AF lenses - like a Tokina 400 f5.6 - without any problems. In manual focus mode it's just a teleconverter - though there is a slight diffence in magnification depending on the postions of the elements (which move around to provide AF.)
An F or FA lens will act like an A lens when attached to the 1.7x converter in that you will lose aperture data in the finder when you move the aperture ring off of the A postition. You will also lose AF except as provided by the AF adapter (ie - there is no linkage between the bodies AF cam and the lens.)
Looking at the info sheet that comes with the adapter, it looks like you need an f2.8 lens or faster to get AF.
Hope this helps -
