If you keep your eyes open, you should be able to find a used Sigma APO
400/5.6 Macro in PKAF mount for maybe US$ 300.  It's no FA* 400/5.6,
but it's not US$ 1300, either. :-)

The 300/4.5s are really tempting.  I'll probably end up with one before
too much longer.

Unless you're always shooting in bright light, you'll want something
faster than an f/4 200mm lens.  I've used it with my SMC-A 200/4 and it
worked pretty well when there was lots of light.  It did a lot of
hunting and had a hard time locking on when the light wasn't as good.
