My point was that they are not even talking about the same vehicle. The
first Land Rover (80) was a rebodied US Military Jeep. The Landrover 88 was
the first with its own chassis. The Defender is a (somewhat) look alike that
has nothing in common with the original. By that standard the current Jeep
has be in production since 1941. And as you said the VW Bug has continued in
production in Brazil until very recently. I think the prototype "Peoples
Car" was shown in 1935 as you said. It went into production just prior to
WWII, then production was changed over to the Kubalwagen (the world's first
jeep like vehicle?) after only one year. Continuous production of the Bug
IIRC would be 1949-200x.

The article was in an English paper for English consumption, I don't think
they gave a damn about accuracy.
