Forgive me if I have got the wrong end of the stick here, but if you use plain old stop-down metering, can't you just set the camera to AV and blast away, manually choosing the f-stop once you've focussed? The camera will surely choose the appropriate shutter speed for each given stop, measuring the light entering the lens?
