I really prefer MSIE for its security "zones". I can keep JavaScript
turned off for general surfing and have it automatically switched on for
sites that I trust.

I haven't seen a pop-up for years because I use Proxomitron. This
user-configurable web proxy lets you customize just about anything
regarding your web browsing experience. I have mine set to defeat
frames, prevent links from opening new browser windows *and* stop
JavaScript pop-ups (even on pages where I allow JavaScript to run).
