I have TWO Olympus-35 SPs, with the same famed 7-element G. Zuiko f/1.7 42mm lens... I do recall they gave it the sobriquet "Poor Man's Leica." Both very nice & super clean. I'll keep one and sell or eBay the other soon. One problem with that camera? They're not made like Pentax is. The 'build quality' simply doesn't match up to an MG, for instance. Or even a pretty, simple little MV-1! That's the Pentax curse, isn't it! Go find any other maker's camera to match the build quality AND capability, within 200%, maybe 300% of the price! I don't think it can be done.
Heck, I got a beautiful Pen FT the other day. 38mm f/1.8. Absolutely lovely piece, but I was thinking it was smaller than it turned out to be, and led on by that 'imagined' size, also imagined it might possibly have a relatively quiet shutter. Never having held a Pen FT, I didn't know. Had no idea. But, that's how I usually do it. Get something on eBay, and if I don't like it, put it back into circulation... Where else would I get a chance to try out all these various cameras? I have a practically brand new Leica CL-1 to sell soon. Got it new on eBay, manufacturer's sample, and it turns out to be TOO automatic for me. Hard to explain, but, I have too little control over what it chooses to do. Or so I preceive it -- and that's what matters. In any case, it goes on the block too... Later, keith "J. C.
