Does this mean that if you put tape (or something like that) on the lens
mount (on the place where the contacts are missing), the camera thinks there
is an A-lens?

That's precisely my point.

With any K/M lens that spot is metal, meaning that it is shorted
as if it were always in the A position.
If the spot is open (disconnected) then the camera reads the
simulator arm aperture setting.
