Alan, do you also happen to know whether C-74 can fit MZ-6?

I have never played with the the MZ-6 so I do not know. However, if it was designed like the MZ-3/5/5n, it should. Check out these pics and see if you can remove the screen this way. You need a very rigid slot screwdriver and be very careful btw.

Will it cause a loss of accuracy of spot metering?

Since the metering sensors are located between the eyepiece and the screen, spot meter will be affected for certain and become unreliable because of the split image. AFAIK, there is no way to predict the behaviour and compensate. However, centre-weighted metering measures a larger area so it is still reliable enough in practice. Btw, the +1/3EV should be for Z-1p. I don't have Z-1 so I don't know.

Anyone tried this? Can split screen be used comfortably with smallish magnification factors for manual focusing?

If the magnification is too low or the viewfinder itself is not very sharp, split image with wide angle lenses might still be difficult for manual focus. This was the reason I sold the MZ-M because I found myself spending too much time struggling on mf.
