Gee, you people just write too much - as I sit here trying to get the unread
messages under 100 :-)

Anyway, as some of you have noticed, I joined the growing ranks on Tuesday.
Yes, the lone *ist D made it to my photo store. Funny, the rep called them
to have them notify me of its ship date. They could not reach me by phone
on Monday and left messages but one kind soul even showed up at my place to
let me know that it should be in the following day. Talk about service!

I have used the Nikon D1X and D1H quite a bit. Not an expert by any means
but not a novice to DSLRs. The learning curve has begun as it will with any
DSLR.

I realize that RAW is the best to use in terms of correcting, but if you get
the exposure correct jpegs work fine. Still, with all my free time (note
the sarcastic tone) I realize that I am now the lab. It was so much easier
to drop off my film - which I still do and will continue to do - at my
trusted photo store and then pick up the results later. Now I must come up
with a work flow that will facilitate my obtaining the final image. The
learning of software has to begin. Along with that there is the acquisition
of a portable that I plan to dedicate to photography. I figure if I can
take over 3000 shots with the OptioS in less than seven months imagine how
many I can take with the *ist D!

I have noticed that my use of film has not diminished. Actually it has gone
up a bit since I now have a 645n. It did surprise my parents when they
looked at my refrigerator and noted how much of the space was taken up by
film and batteries...

Though the majority of the shots so far have been with my Limited lenses, I
have taken quite a few with my Super Takumar 85/1.9! Definitely a lot
easier to use than my non A lenses. Though I have tested out my 50/1.2 on
it while checking out white balance settings. And I proved that unlocking
for stop down metering works well with the lens being very secure.

As noted previously, the camera takes shots in a normal setting that does
not oversharpen an image. I still have to play with that setting if I want
to shoot jpegs with minimal post-processing... Too much software, too
little time.

I talked with my photo store as I was picking up some flash sync cords, and
verified that if I drop off jpegs they will color correct and such - the
same they do with film. Still I need to correct for electronic and web
useage :-(

No real reason for the post, just some may be interested...
