Hello Cory!

Unsharp mask can be a complicated subject to discuss on a mailing list
as there are so many variables both in terms of how one sharpens the
photo, the degree of sharpening (i.e., sharpness, pixel, and threshold
settings), the subject and detail of the image as well as its
contrast range, the size of the final print or web image and so on.

The one thing you don't want to do is over sharpen (yecch!).

Here's a suggestion to get you started: Convert the image to LAB
color and then click on the lightness channel. Set the sharpening to
20% or so, pixels to one, and threshold to zero. Now, sharpen the
image, and repeat the process until you get the result you like. This
way you can see the degree of sharpening incrementally, and, if the
image becomes too sharp, you can just undo the last sharpening
command.

Once you're satisfied with the degree of sharpening, convert back to
RGB, and, voila ... more or less <LOL>

Kind regards from busy Turin,

Tyrone
