i have abandoned Unsharp Mask completely. it adds apparent sharpness based on knowing nothing about the image and not using any physical model of how light works in a lens. this means it puts edges where there aren't supposed to be edges and doesn't increase contrast like a proper sharpening function should. FocusFixer uses a model of how light works in a lens. it's $49 and worth it.
