Remember many folks who by from Ebay are out in the boonies and there are no shops that sell reasonalbly nearby. They are also not knowledgable about the NYC places. So what seems like a lot to us, may seem like a bargain to them.

For example, a recent auction of an FA* 80-200 2.8 went for almost

$1100, when you could get one new for just a little over that at B&H. The bidding for this went up really high in the last 5 minutes or so, I thought I was going to get it for around $650. :(

I noticed this with Canon lenses. Been looking for a Canon Macro. Several have gone recently almost for retail price -- only $20-30 less, if that. I keep thinking, "the idiots, why not buy new then?" It probably has to do with the release of the 300D.

So wouldn't be a bit surprised if the same thing happened with Pentax lenses.
