I had the identical problem with an LX a few years ago. It happened to me with perfect timing when I was 3000 miles from home and on holiday with 1 body. There is a lesson there.
However I got mine fixed and CLAd at Asahi Photo in London for just under a hundred quid, which seemed like a good deal. They actually replaced the rewind knob / film speed selector as part of the repair.
