The speed of USB 1.1 is fine if you are prepared to attend to other tasks during down-loads but what's this about too much ware? The connector on the *ist D must be crap, I don't have a card reader for my Oly E-10 and I've probably connected and disconnected the cameras mini-USB connector over 100 times, it's still going strong and always error free.
