This is the problem I reoprted months ago regarding the Canon dslr units.
A local pro with 3 found that all of them focus differently.
If Pentax is consistent in its error then that's better
than the competition, though not what it should be.
My suspicion would lean more toward design, 
esp. the engineering of the sensor mount or perhaps even
the sensor manufacturer's unit tolerances.
Pentax having a rigid metal inner frame might account for the
consistency attained.
