The only difference I am aware of is the diagonal (vs horizontal)
split-image screen.  Perhaps the "didn't have quite as fast a
shutter" was actually referring to the ME.

The ME Super indeed has a pleasant little shutter/mirror sound (mine
all sound more like the "snick" - <g>).  Although I use LX's for
most shooting (occasionally a Super A) (and I have been thoroughly
spoiled by the TTL flash those bodies provide for, which the ME S,
unfortunately, does not), I am currently using an ME S for my
"dedicated church camera" body, because it is so unobtrusive.

The ME Super (and similar bodies) can be made [slightly] quieter by
using the "Short Soft Case", just like the LX can be made [ever so
slightly] quieter with the "Blimp Case".

By the way, I was surprised to find that the ME F is not as quiet as
is the ME Super - the ME F (to me) sounds a little more like an ME.
