I would think that within the spectrum of Ilford's twelve filters you could find one that afforded appropriate contrast. However, I haven't had much experience printing C41 BW. Good old fashioned BW yields great results, why go with the C41? That's for people who don't have a darkroom or a lab.

Has anyone experienced this contrast problem and found a solution.

I've had great results from both Kodak and Ilford C41 black and white films
when processed at a local 1 hour lab and printed on color paper
but when I try print the same negative myself on Multicontrast Ilford B&W
paper, either RC or FB, I cannot match the contrast. Ilford suggested I
try
new filters, which I did, but no better. The filters I have are perfect
for
printing from a regular B&W film.
