You priced a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars lately? (my second favourite shoe after my Converse One Stars) The vintage look don't come cheap these days (but still cheaper than the Uber-shoes you refer to...)

These really are excellently evocative of a not so long gone age, which was in many ways more innocent than nowadays. I have been noticing the shoes. Not unwieldy, fashionable "trainers" just kid's soft shoes, for destroying over a summer's activity.
