Yes, this makes 28mm the true normal lens for the *ist D.

If you prefer 50mm normals (instead of 43mm) on 35mm then the 35/2 is
a good normal for the *ist D.  It has the same field of view as a 52mm
lens on a 35mm body.  It isn't as fast as the 50/1.4, but 35/2 is
still respectable.
